The spelling fairy says: It's 'atheist', not 'athiest'
by Apognophos inatheists are people who are "a-" (without) "theism" (a belief in god).
they are not "athiests"; they are not "athier" than everyone else, nor is "athy" a word.. .
this isn't aimed at anyone in particular, but it's a mistake i see every day on here and i thought it might be nice to have a topic we can bump just to periodically remind people of the proper spelling, especially since they are sometimes referring to their very own beliefs.

Does anyone live by any Bible stuff?
by punkofnice inthis is not meant to be a slag off the bible thread.. i had a question asked me the other day and it was: 'do you live by anything from the bible?'.
i had to think about that one because i was force grown in the filthy, disgusting cult of the paedophile loving watchtower(r).. you know what?
i really don't know if i just naturally am a great bloke or if any 'nice' bits in the bible influenced me......or has western culture been influenced by the bible for good and bad?.

Ditto what Cofty said. If I do, it's purely by coincidence.

I don't miss talking about how great the convention was afterwards, when it was completely indistinguishable from every one before it.
I don't miss having to burn vacation time at work to attend the first day.
I don't miss wearing a suit and tie in 100 degree heat.

Not at all. It would probably be a relief. I wouldn't have to come up with excuses to avoid family get-togethers. I've strongly considered sending a letter DAing myself, but that's more effort than I care to put into it. I'm never bothered by elders anymore, and even my mom rarely calls me anymore.

Women elders, what difference would they make?
by Freedom77 inokay, let's do a big what-if: suppose the gb for its own unfathomable reasons suddenly got new light (tm) and decided to start appointing women elders and ministerial servants.
they would, of course, refer to the examples of junia (apostle), and priscilla and phoebe (deaconesses in wordlyspeak) in the greek scriptures; never mind what mental somersaults it would take to get them there.
stranger things have happened in wt history.. that being the case, would having women in positions of real authority make any significant difference in the congos or in the borg as a whole, and why or why not?.

Not much difference. As with male elders, how long they last in the role would depend on how willing they were to tow the company line.

Only the grape stuff. The cherry could easily get mixed up with blood.

Beards......the CO allowed this one!
by punkofnice ina minny man in a local congregation has a beard...he was bullied by the elders to remove it.. then the co came along and told the elders to allow him to keep his beard.
(not as the result of any skin condition or anything).. i kid you not!!!.
what do you make of that?.

A woman who accompanies a gay male in order to give the impression that he is heterosexual.
You just described half the elder's wives in my old circuit

They continue to drop like flies
by suavojr inyes, the jws continue to bleed their young ones, so far in my local kh 3 were dfd, one girl just turned 18 this month and packed her bags and said goodbye to the cult and her cultish parents, another young 18 year old man decided to have a non-jw girlfriend and decided to stop attending and is no longer a witness.
they continue to leave and wt leaders dont give a damn.
they dont do anything to help kids be successful and live a healthy life.. .

Well they DO give a damn. Thats why we see the youth-aimed videos and such being ramped up. They're trying to lock them in early as possible
If they don't give a damn, they should. Young JWs are ultimately the future of the organization. The handful of people they convert each year in the ministry aren't enough to sustain the religion long-term. They need the next generation of born-ins.

I don't call this progress...
by MidwichCuckoo in...where communication/information has progressed vastly, the jw r&f have, in well over 100 years, progressed from sandwich boards to..errr..modernised sandwich boards as their up-to-date means of communicating.. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2691254/how-jehovahs-witnesses-got-street-smart-believers-swap-infamous-doorstepping-standing-outside-train-stations-shops.html.

Did anyone ever rent a home or apartment from a "brother"?
by keyser soze inwhat was the experience like?
i lived with my brother and then sister-in-law in an apartment building owned by a brother and his wife.. besides the fact that they would constantly enter the place while we were out, without any kind of advance notification, they would procrastinate whenever there was maintenance work that needed to be done.
sometimes it would take months before they would get to it.

Did you ever ask them?
Didn't need to. Just like we didn't need to ask the pioneer wife if she used either of the other two units for her mid-morning service break while the residents were at work. We already knew the answer.
